NORCE – as a research institution – believe in building networks and generate synergy through sharing knowledge throughout the scientific and industrial communities. We are driven by passion for knowledge and striving together towards sustainability. NORCE seeks to develop new knowledge that progresses sustainable development. More specifically, we are involved in renewable carbon projects through development of biotech-based production of feed, fuel and chemical building blocks – “for the common good”. Additionally, NORCE works on developing low emission energy solutions, e.g. innovative and cost-efficient hydrogen technology, and has extensive experience from solar cell research and offshore wind. NORCE also contributes internationally to the development of geothermal solutions and future zero-emission energy solutions for buildings, industries, neighbourhoods and regions.

NORCE’s main office is in Bergen, and the institute is present along the entire Norwegian coast from Alta and Tromsø in the north, Bergen, Haugesund and Stavanger in the west, Kristiansand and Grimstad in the south and Oslo in the east.
The largest owners in NORCE are the four universities in Bergen, Stavanger, Agder and Tromsø, either as shareholders or through regional holding companies. Other shareholders are Norwegian Counties, research foundations, as well as companies in industry and finance.
NORCE builds its own facilities and has access to a variety of infrastructure, including various labs and test facilities, as well as a research aircraft. This infrastructure is important for developing new knowledge that meets society’s needs, and contributes to a sustainable energy transition.
